CCODP Emergency Appeal for the Refugee Crisis

The current refugee crisis that is taking place in Europe requires a global response and Development and Peace is working with its Caritas partners in Europe to help bring relief to thousands of people who are trapped in limbo as they try to escape war, poverty and repression in their countries of origin. The Government of Canada has committed 100 million dollars to this crisis and Development and Peace is one of the agencies able to access this fund to support partners and projects working towards sustainable solutions to this crisis.

The Government of Canada is matching all funds raised for this appeal until December 31st.

Dear Fathers and Brother Priests,

As our world becomes smaller with global media immediate coverage of local and international events, we necessarily hear and see the suffering of peoples everywhere. This also continually reminds us of our security and prosperity as a country and nation. The Catholic Church in Canada mainly through its caritive organization, Development and Peace, extends a helping hand to those in need.

Bishop Bolan of Saskatoon on behalf of D & P has issued a letter which we are asked to circulate in our parishes. I therefore request that you not only pass this letter on to your parish social justice group but that you put it in your parish bulletins so as to reach as many people as possible.

“In as much as you did, for one of these least of my brothers and sisters, you did it for me”.

In the Good Shepherd,

+Bishop Paul
